by Tally Pendragon
This is the story of how my beautiful little old doggie, a ginger Pomeranian named Tiri-Pops, takes her final journey and finds that watering hole at which her friend Aslan dwells:
Her legs won't work properly any more, she can't see or hear me unless I make very loud noises any more, and her senses zone out intermittently so that she appears to be periodically lost in her own little world, oblivious, even to herself... Yet, she's happy, still eats her food, and looks forward to her walks with her newest friend, Lucky. As she makes her slow way from in to out and in again, noticing only the familiar smells of her faster years, I'm sure he feels lucky to be gambolling along beside her. But there comes a day when she's not happy, when her jaw won't work to hold the food in her mouth, when she cannot take in the water that provides her with this slow life's diminishing vitality, and will do so no more unless she can.
It's time.
Time for her to say goodbye to this life and join her sweet, departed friend for whom she has pined this past year and a half.
And then, an angel appears to help her gently cross this final divide... or is she a faery? If so, she's a very good faery, with healing hands and a soothing voice... a patient faery, with a kindness in her soul that this world now encounters so little, and so fleetingly, if ever at all.
I offer up my beautiful, little old doggie into her capable, kind and loving hands, this angelic faery, and feel the weight of all this world's troubles melt as she soothes my gorgeous, years-long friend... yes, literally soothes her path into the otherworld, where she can meet her own missed friend Aslan again and gambol in the bluebell woods with him once and forevermore. And there's a strange sense of delightful relief, one that, not having felt it for a very long time, I'm reluctant to accept, but that feels so natural now in this calm space that the angelic faery has managed to shape and form around us. I'll deal with the sorrow all the better for it... Now that my beautiful girl is safe from all the ills of her life in this world, and has found the next one so peacefully, and so beautifully... I'll deal with the sorrow all the better for the memory of her gentle passing now... now that my beautiful ginger doggie is reunited with her lifelong friend.
